New Sonic Drive-in Senior Director Sam Wong will focus on development in priority markets nationwide
SONIC® has appointed a new Senior Director of Franchise Sales and Development to join an already strong team focused on expanding the brand to fans nationwide. Sam Wong, whose past QSR experience includes Dairy Queen, will work closely with our franchise sales team to further accelerate our expansion momentum. Wong will be instrumental in contributing to our company’s development pipeline as we progress toward brand presence in our 46th state with the opening of our first Hawaii locations in 2018.
Wong will be based out of Irvine, California, and will lead franchise development for states including California, Oregon and Washington, with priority markets including Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Wong will work to educate potential franchisees on what makes SONIC an exceptional business opportunity, emphasizing the culture, great people, strong brand, differentiated menu and unique drive-in model.
“Sam is a strong salesman with relevant experience that will greatly benefit our team as we continue to grow toward our development goals,” said Drew Ritger, senior vice president of development. “Our entire development team is focused on expanding the brand to fans across the U.S. by offering a differentiated franchise concept to interested entrepreneurs in markets large and small. Sam will help us do this.”
SONIC is America’s Drive-In®, serving more than 3 million customers a day at more than 3,500 locations nationwide. An iconic brand with a rich heritage encompassing more than 60 years, SONIC believes in excellent customer service and developing core relationships with customers and the communities where our franchise owners operate. We are in the middle of a major nationwide expansion and joining SONIC makes more sense than ever as we set a goal of 1,000 new Drive-Ins by the end of 2024.
Prior to joining SONIC, Wong worked as the Senior Director of Development for Dairy Queen Corporation where he was responsible for leading retail store development for the brand, developing franchise sales and real estate strategy to deliver growth and financial return. Before Dairy Queen, Wong worked as the Director of Development for Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen where he was responsible for directing the real estate and construction team in the execution of development strategies and new store development for corporate and franchise locations and brand growth.
As SONIC extends beyond our core markets, Wong will play a critical role in growing the development area for our iconic brand as hungry fans coast-to-coast look for the nearest SONIC drive-in.
